As moms, we are all concerned about our families. We want what is best for our children. We want what is best for our spouses. We want what is best for our entire family.
Moms work hard to be involved. Moms are involved in schools for their children. Moms support their spouses in their career goals. Moms do whatever they can to help out any family member in need.
In addition to our families, and most importantly for our families, there is another need moms need to fulfill. That need is politics. I know what you’re thinking…but don’t stop reading now!
Many of us voted in the primaries and will vote in the upcoming mid-term elections. That is terrific! Voting is so very important and everyone who is of voting age and is eligible is definitely encouraged to vote. It is how we make our voices heard. After all, if one does not vote, one should not complain about the state of the city, state or nation.
Be sure your vote is an educated vote. Do not rely on ads. Professional firms are hired to spin messages and deliver hip sounding 30 second catchy sound bites.
Proposed bills, amendments and candidates are now online. Search online for the issues that matter to you and to the issues on the ballot in your area. Read the proposals. Learn about the candidates. Thoroughly understand the impact of your vote because it will have an impact…not just on you but on your family.
If you develop a passion for a certain ballot measure or candidate, definitely contact the respective office and get involved…there is still time! Remember…these elections are the mid-terms. Another huge election is in 2012 which includes the presidential election. There are many ways to volunteer and a lot of them do not require a lot of your time.
In some respects politics can be complicated and in others deceptively simple. Learn about the issues…focus on the facts. Avoid the spin and the emotion. Help to educate others.
As mothers, we are a force to be reckoned with!
An educated vote, is the best vote.
